Biography
Fabrizio Bucci was born in Rome on April 14, 1964 and graduated in Political Science at the University of Rome in 1988. He joined the diplomatic career in 1992. He was assigned first to the Directorate General for Human Resources and then to the Directorate General for Political Affairs; he left abroad in 1996 to serve at the Italian Embassy in Cairo, where he remained until 2000. Subsequently, he was assigned to the Permanent Representation to the EU in Bruxelles. Back in Rome in 2004 he was assigned to the General Secretariat, Coordination Unit. From 2007 to 2013 he served as Counsellor at the Italian Embassy in Washington and later appointed as Head of Afghanistan Unit at the Directorate General for Political Affairs. In January 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary and appointed first as Central Director for European Integration and from 2015 as Deputy General Director for the European Union. In 2010 he was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic.
